- APC leaders distributing Coronavirus relief items in Lagos only to APC members – Doherty alleged
The PDP State Chairman in Lagos State has warned the Lagos State governor not to politicize distribution of palliatives made available to residents of Lagos State.
He said “It has been brought to the notice of my office today by some of our party chairmen in the local governments and LCDAs that the Lagos state government initiative to distribute food items is being executed by APC stalwarts and has such is being executed in a partisan manner. The items are being distributed to the APC members and sympathizers through party structures down to the grassroot in the state.
It was also confirmed that the distribution was done by individuals or political appointees that are affiliated with the APC. Some of these Local Governments are Ibeju-Lekki and Ikeja among others.
“As the chairman of the main opposition party in Lagos state, it is my duty to bring this abnormality to the notice of the Governor and the commisioner in charge of this distribution. Lagosians are aware that the palliatives which were donated through the intervention of the Federal Government, the state and private individuals to the state and not by members of the APC. As such it is only right to insist that they must be distributed without fear or favour.
Doherty advised the Governor to nominate a neutral organisation like the Red Cross Society, CDAs and other well known apolitical and neutral NGOs to execute a more transparent distribution exercise forthwith as this is just the beginning of the Crisis.
Doherty said that the Governor should recall that he had advised his government to follow processes that are guided by transparency and honesty in all his dealings as Governor of the state during this pandemic to ensure success and cooperation of Lagosians.
Doherty, concluded by saying: “I will continue to stress to our people the importance of adhering to the lockdown order and other procedures pronounced by the governor as a very important step towards defeating this evil COVID-19 Virus.
