*EASTER, COVID-19 AND THE HYPOCRISY OF THE NIGERIAN ELITE.*.
I have received a plethora of Happy Easter Messages from a lot of the ‘important’ perons in society. They have been pretty godly messages from men and women who are clearly and largely godless. Have they wondered how the Poor and the indigent are marking the Easter festivities in this period of the Covid-19 lockdown? What have they done directly to help make the period less stressful for them?
Easter represents the triumph of Truth over falsehood, and Love over religion. How have we lived true to this? Those who should know how fraudulent and thieving our politrickcal operators are, chose albeit for Political considerations and profit to donate huge funds to government in the fight against Covid-19. What more defines hypocrisy?
Do these men and women not see the poor around them? Would their so-called donations not have had greater impact had they used their NGOs and other available Community based organizations to reach out to the needy directly? Why are Nigerians so Phariseecal, hypocritical and Sadduceecal? Easter happened because Christ rose against the hypocrisy of the Scribes, the Pharisees, the Sadducees and the Elders of his time, and all true followers of Christ must repudiate the hypocrisy of the present age.
The foul news everywhere is that hunger induced crime is on the rise across the country, particularly in Lagos, Ogun and the FCT were the present Covid-19 lockdown is fiercer. Had the Banks and the Big Men and Women who donated billions to Government to fight Covid-19 made monies available to the people using the BVN accredited accounts of their Customers, and had the others directly reached the needy around them, would the hunger that is forcing the poor to defy the lockdown be so fierce as it is today?
Now that the Lockdown has been extended for our collective good, may we ruminate on this truth as I enjoin everyone out there to help someone in need for such is the LOVE-FILLED mystery of Easter.
Like the Good Friday comes before Easter, may the Risen Christ bring us succour in this time of global stress. And may the Almighty heal our planet and banish the Covid-19 pandemic.
*HAPPY EASTER TO Y’ALL.*
